Service Description

Primary care addresses a particular problem or everyday health need and provided at the first level of contact with the health system.​ A Primary Health Care team includes a wide range of professionals and community members. 

Primary health nurse practitioners can:

  • ​​​Diagnose and treat common medical illnesses and chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and COPD
  • Order tests such as laboratory tests, x-rays and ultrasounds
  • Perform common procedures such as removal of moles, excision and drainage of abscesses and suturing of simple wounds (cuts).
  • Prescribe medications after assessment
  • See residents in long term care facilities and order medications, tests, and treatments (Physicians still need to see residents at least once per month)
  • Perform all the care giving activities of a nurse, as well as education, injury prevention, and health promotion.

​7 days a week, 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Health Bus may be closed if the bus needs repair or during bad weather.
