Service Description

Advice on food and nutrition

  • Foods to eat to lower your risk of disease
  • Feeding picky eaters
  • When to take vitamin and mineral supplements
  • How to read food and nutrition labels
  • What to believe in the media and on the internet

Identification of nutrition issues, assessment of nutritional status of individuals, development of care plans and monitoring effectiveness of dietary changes

  • Healthy eating and weight control
  • Diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other special medical needs
  • Normal nutrition throughout the life cycle (infants, preschool, school age, adult, seniors)

Nutrition presentations to groups

  • Chronic disease management and prevention
  • Grocery store tours
  • Canadian Mental Health Association
  • Label reading, portion distortion
  • Kids in the Kitchen

Teaching other professionals

  • Professional orientation and in-services (public health nurses, nutrition education workshops for teachers)
  • Consultation and provision of resources to other professionals who use the information with their clients (teachers, coaches, support group leaders)
