Service Description
In partnership with Cultural Interpretation Services for Our Communities (CISOC), provides online training and certified testing for interpreters.
Online Training Programs:
- Community Interpreter Training: designed for current and would-be community interpreters who wish to further their knowledge or gain new knowledge of interpreting protocols. The course is based on 70 hours of study and includes study materials, case studies, audio recordings, video demonstration and quizzes.
- Medical Knowledge and Terminology: for individuals who wish to gain certification in Medical Knowledge and Terminology. Potential candidates may include: interpreters; translators; non-medical hospital and community health centre staff; medical insurance providers; and individuals who work as a liaison between medical professionals and the general public. Based on 120 hours of independent study and includes learning materials, quizzes, diagrams, and audio-based pronunciation guides.
Language Test (CILISAT):
- A testing system that evaluates the language and interpretation proficiencies of people applying for certification as community interpreters using the Community Interpreter Language and Interpreting Skills Assessment Tool (CILISAT).
- Offers recruiters and service providers a snapshot of an individual’s current ability in consecutive interpreting and sight translating in any of 50 languages and dialects
- Assess language and interpretation skills through the following tests:
- Interpretation from English into selected CILISAT language
- Interpretation from selected CILISAT language into English
- Sight translation from English into selected CILISAT language
- Sight translation from selected CILISAT language into English.
