Service Description

Offers a variety of programming for children and youth experiencing sight loss.

  • LEGO Braille Bricks
    • ​​Use LEGO Braille Bricks to discover the principles of learning through play, and how to apply these when teaching pre-braille and braille. Families can borrow LEGO Braille Bricks in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan North. 
  • Saskatchewan North Youth Leadership Program
    • Increases participants confidence and knowledge around transitioning to post-secondary and work environments.  Nurtures independence and helps youth find out what they are capable of, while having fun and learning to support themselves and others.
  • Youth Leadership: Learning How to Make Small Talk
    • Youth participants learn the do’s and dont’s of making small talk, at work, school or even waiting for the elevator. Available at CNIB Regina.
  • Regina Youth Adventure Club
    • Program designed to provide youth who are blind or partially sighted opportunities to develop leadership, advocacy, and compensatory skills in a social setting with the goal of building self-esteem, confidence, social and community engagement, and self-advocacy  (empowerment). 
  • Garage Band Hero
    • Garage Band is a popular accessible app that lets you make music anywhere. It includes a full-featured recording studio that allows you to compose and play your own songs using a free sound library of instruments, loops, fills and sound packs. Group meets on Zoom.
  • Drama and Dragons
    • Fantasy fans, aspiring writers, amateur playwrights, and young actors are all welcome to join the new virtual monthly workshop. Each month a facilitator provides exercises to lead participants on a journey to discover their magical writing and performing talents. Group meets over Zoom.
  • Scribes and Sorcerers Youth Fantasy Book Club
    • For youth ages 10 -16 who enjoy fantasy authors, past and present. Group meets on Zoom to discuss some familiar books and authors and hopefully learn about many new ones. 
  • Shared Visions – Creative Arts Meetup
    • A monthly professional development and awareness session to learn about other part-time, full-time, or freelance artists and performers who experience low vision and blindness. Sessions will rotate guest speakers in the areas of music, performing arts and theatre or visual/tactile arts. Group meets on Zoom.
  • Read Aloud to Me: Stories for Children
    • Children of all ages across the country are welcome to participate in a live reading series Read Aloud to Me. While stories chosen are geared to participants between the ages of 7 to 12, anyone who would enjoy listening is welcome.
  • Zoom Room for Kids
    • Children ages 6-10 and older, non-verbal participants meet on Zoom as music is used to build social skills. Participants will work as a team to create their own special song. Certified music therapist Melissa Murphy will also have lots of songs and stories to share that are perfect for singing and dancing along.
  • Tween Zoom Hangout
    • Youth, 10 – 14 years of age can play games, chat and make new friends.
  • Learn to Code: Code Jumpers Regina
    • This program is designed for children (ages 7-14)  to increase their knowledge of coding utilizing a tactile coding system called Code Jumper. 
  • Music for Kids 
    • Weekly online music session for children and youth across Canada.  Groups are filled with songs, stories and more.
  • Braille Quest – a fun braille literacy program!
    • Participants use their braille skills at home or school to complete fun challenges including crafts and creative writing!
  • CNIB/OPVIC (Ontario Parents of Visually Impaired Children) Parent Support
    • A community of parents supporting parents in monthly meetings of the CNIB/OPVIC Group. This Ontario-based group is open to parents across Canada who want to be active in the development of their child with vision loss. Attendees will share best practices and we will hear from TVI’s (Teachers for the Visually Impaired or Itinerant Teachers) and other special guests. 
  • Bi-Weekly Ukulele Club
    • Learn at your own pace in this bi-weekly exploration of fundamentals that will include ukulele basics, finger positioning, playing chords, reading tabs and chord charts, strumming patterns, and performing simple songs. This is a beginner level program.
  • Writing with Feeling Retreat 2024
    • For Canadian youth who use or are learning braille with a passion for creative writing or crafting a poem, story, or essay for the CNIB Braille Creative Writing Contest. Takes place at CNIB Lake Joe in Muskoka, Ontario. 
  • CNIB Learning Academy
    • For Canadian youth with sight loss. Programs challenge youth from grades six to first year of post-secondary studies to develop pre-employment, leadership, independence and social skills. 
  • TD Summer Reading Club
    • Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities. This free program is co-created and delivered by more than 2,000 public libraries across Canada.  It’s designed to inspire kids to explore the fun of reading their way – the key to building a lifelong love of reading.
  • The ABCs of IOS Manual
    • This free manual provides parents and educators with the age-appropriate information they need to teach a child how to interact with an iPad using VoiceOver. To put the latest knowledge at children’s fingertips, it incorporates accessible apps with educational content.
