Service Description

Birth parents thinking about placing a child for adoption have the following planning options and support services available:

  • Voluntary committal adoption (Domestic Adoption) – birth parents make a plan with the Ministry of Social Services and participate in the selection of prospective adoptive parents.
  • Independent adoption – birth parents make a plan for adoption with someone they know, such as a friend or relative. A lawyer working on behalf of the prospective adoptive parents, and a Ministry-approved Independent Practitioner completes the home study.
