Service Description
Services are available for children and adults.
Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology:
- Provides assessment, treatment and consultative services to pre-school children (birth – 5 years of age), helping them to develop appropriate communication skills.
Adult Speech-Language Pathology:
- The rehabilitative or corrective treatment of physical and/or cognitive deficits/disorders resulting in difficulty with communication
- Offers a variety of speech, voice, language, cognitive-linguistic, and/or swallowing disorders
- Serves adults who have problems in expressive and receptive communication
- Population served may include individuals who have suffered a stroke, head injury, or who have progressive degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Individuals who have had head an neck surgery may also be served.
- Services are provided to adults in acute and long term care facilities throughout the health region, as well on an outpatient basis.
Eligibility
Pediatric: Infants, toddlers preschool children and their families living within the health region. Preschoolers enrolled in pre-kindergarten programs are not eligible for services.
Adults: Adults with a variety of speech, voice, language, cognitive-linguistic, and/or swallowing disorders.
Application Process
Pediatric: A child can be referred with the legal guardian's consent. Children are placed on a waiting list, with the length of wait-time varying based on staff vacancies and the number of referrals received.
