Service Description

Medical transportation costs are paid for those eligible for Supplementary Health Program benefits through Social Services enabling access the following types of medically required health services not available in home community: referred appointments with physicians, specialists, dentists and opticians for diagnostic tests, medical treatments, hospital admissions, day surgery and treatment for substance abuse and problem gambling.

Emergency Trips
Through the Northern Medivac Program, Saskatchewan Health will pay for medical emergency trips out of the north for Saskatchewan residents. Must be approved by doctor or nurse and might be arranged by air, road ambulance or taxi. Individuals are responsible for return trips even if medical personnel order an ambulance to bring them home.

NOTE: Does not apply to First Nations residents with treaty status.  Treaty individuals should check with their local band transportation clerk for medical transportation procedures.
