Service Description
As of July 2022, family law matters that come to family court will be required to attempt a family dispute resolution process by the close of pleadings before they may continue with any further court proceedings. People can apply for an exemption if there has been interpersonal violence, a parent has abducted a child from the other parent, or there is some other urgency. For more information call 1-866-0927 or email DROfamily@gov.sk.ca.
A number of early family dispute resolution process options are available, including collaborative law process, family arbitration, family mediation and parenting coordination. It is recommended that individuals ask prospective service providers how their process of dispute works, how they expect you to participate, and what the cost of the service will be. Contact lists are available on the website.
NOTE: Families are welcome to pursue family dispute resolution independently, as an alternative to traditional court proceedings.
