Service Description
Offers newcomers opportunities to build community and connection through group activities that promote language development, cultural exchange, and social support. Fosters meaningful relationships and helps reduce isolation during the settlement journey. Programs include:
- BrightStart! – engages mothers with young children through structured play, crafts, songs, and presentations. Helps mothers build support networks while strengthening parenting and language skills. Children learn to follow instructions, take turns, share, and prepare for school in Canada.
- Coffee and Conversation – brings newcomers and volunteers together for casual discussions every Thursday from 1–3 p.m. Encourages language practice, cultural exchange, and community connection while offering insight into life in Saskatoon and Canadian culture.
- Family, Fun and Fit – introduces participants to a new recreational activity each weekend through sports, field trips, and cultural events. Builds comfort with local facilities and services so participants feel confident accessing them independently.
- Learn to Sporting Program – provides instruction and equipment to help participants discover a popular local sport. Past activities have included tennis, skating, canoeing, and curling—promoting physical activity and cultural connection.
- Weaving Words – develops creative writing, storytelling, and editing skills in partnership with the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild. Participants work with a professional writer and showcase their work at a public reading and in a published anthology. Application required.
- WELL (Women Exchanging Life Lessons) – offers weekly sessions for women focused on health, skills building, and social connection. Community professionals present on topics such as mental health, oral hygiene, cancer prevention, and healthy relationships.
