Service Description
Fine Option Program gives people the opportunity to settle provincial fines by doing unpaid, supervised community service work, rather than paying in cash. This is not an alternative to sentencing.
Ministry of Justice works with town councils, First Nations communities, local non-profit organizations or an individual to administer the program in the community. These Fine Option Agencies assign suitable community service work to people who register to settle fines under the program.
Visit the website for more information.
Eligibility
Individuals must obtain an order from court to register for the program. Individuals currently receiving Employment Insurance benefits may be eligible to participate in the program as long as participation does not affect their ability to meet Employment Insurance requirements in terms of seeking employment/being employed.
Application Process
After receiving an order from court, participants must bring one of the following five forms to their local Fine Option agent: Notice of Fine; Notice of Conviction; Deemed Parking Conviction Notice; Fine Order (Alberta); or Time To Pay (Manitoba).
Call the number in your region for further information. If your local coordinator is not available, call the Fine Option Hotline at 306-787-3333.
