Child Care

A licensed child care facility that provides care and supervision for up to 42 children between the ages of six weeks and 12 years. Priority is given to military families. Child Care Subsidy accepted.

Philosophy

• Nurturing children and creating a positive environment for them to learn gives them the tools they will need to succeed in life.
• Provides opportunities to develop healthy well rounded children who enjoy all aspects of Centre life.
• Believe it’s important for children to learn social, cognitive, emotional, physical and creative skills through play-based experiences and opportunities.
• Believe children are capable and competent learners.

Programs and Activities

• Follow the Government of Saskatchewan’s Play and Exploration Program Guide – educators all have knowledge and experience implementing this program.
• Goals are to assist children to gain a positive sense of self and encourage them to try new things.
• Environment is set up to allow children to make many choices throughout the day.
• Provide many learning opportunities that are set up to invite, inspire, and provoke curiosity.
• Allow adequate time for exploration and often revisit past experiences.
• Recognize children learn in many ways – curriculum supports each individual child and assists them to reach their goals through positive guidance.
• Follow the children’s interests through observation, conversation, and investigation – 90% of program content is based on the children’s interests.
• Provide child led indoor free play multiple times a day.
• Provide many gross motor activities that are both child and teacher led indoors and outdoors.
• Activities are balanced between teacher led and child led throughout the day and encompass all areas of development.
• Recognize different cultural celebrations throughout the year and provide opportunities for the children to explore them through discussion, play, songs, dance, and cooking projects.
• Program values diversity and provides many materials and media to enhance children’s curiosity.
• Encourage parent involvement.
• Offer many opportunities for parents to join in activities throughout the year.

Nutrition

• Believes nutrition teaches children healthy eating habits for life.
• Have implemented the Healthy Start Program in the Centre to enhance nutrition goals.
• Provide morning snack, hot lunch, and afternoon snack – all snacks and meals follow the Canada Food Guide.
• Have introduced many whole wheat items to the menu and have begun to use pulses as a protein supplement in meals.
• Work with parents to provide a substitute when possible.
• Parents may also bring in healthy alternatives if they choose.
• Provide parents with a copy of the four week rotating menu.
