Service Description
Provides culturally appropriate support to pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as to their babies:
- Maternal Child Health Program – three Family Health Workers are the liaisons with the community and the program to identify and inform prenatal and postnatal women of the health services and programs delivered in their community.
- Prenatal and Postnatal Services – offers education, assessment, and counselling by dietitian for prenatal, breastfeeding women, and families of young children. Also provides group presentations on exercise and pregnancy by health promotion coordinator.
- Healthy Pregnancies – Community Health Nurses offer pregnant women, their partner, and their families prenatal education, mental health support, prenatal screening, weight and blood pressure monitoring, information and orientation on gestational diabetes, and referrals to other support services. Additionally, Elders provide spiritual support based on the client’s needs.
- Healthy babies and toddlers – postnatal home visits, breastfeeding information and support, parenting sessions, immunizations and baby assessments for growth and development, and referrals to specialists.
