Youth Programs

Offers a number of programs for refugees and permanent residents between the ages of 13 – 24 years to help them adapt to school, meet new people/make new friends, and participate in fun events. Programs are free of charge and include:

• Homework Help and Conversation Circles
  • Program designed to assist refugee and newcomer youth with academic subjects and school projects through volunteer tutors in English, Math and Literacy.
  • Runs September to June, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
• Summer Blast Program
  • Participants have the opportunity to attend multiple activities including Life Skills Educational Workshops, English Camp, Writing Workshops, Mental Health Workshops and Recreation activities.
  • Runs throughout the whole summer in July and August.
• Toastmasters
  • Program that helps newcomer youth practice speech writing, public speaking, leadership  skills, building confidence and networking.
  • Ten-week program that runs twice a year, from September to October, January to March on Thursdays from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
• Young Leaders Academy
  • Program designed to build character and leadership skills through volunteering, practicing communication skills and proposal writing. Helps newcomer youth become familiar with their community and helps establish strong supportive social networks.
  • 10-week program that runs once a year during the winter.
• Job Readiness Program for Youth
  • Free online workshops that empower youth 15 – 24 with the knowledge and skills necessary to find a job. Must have a computer or laptop, a Google Classroom account and the zoom app. If you do not have a computer, ask about the computer lending program.
• Youth Indigenous Education Workshop
  • Series of presentations with educators, facilitators, artists and storytellers from the Indigenous community. Youth will learn about Indigenous culture.
  • Held once a month.
• Art Workshop
  • Program to assist learners improve their art skills and enable them to express themselves through art and crafts.
  • Held once a month on Wednesdays.
