Service Description
Empowers pregnant and parenting youth, whether they are balancing completing their high-school education or adjusting to being a young parent. Visit the website for information on the multitude of supports offered. Supports include, but are not limited to,:
- Crisis Intervention
- Financial Benefit Applications
- Access to Counselling
- Legal and Custody Matters
- Communication with School Staff
- Accompaniment to Appointments
- Help with Essential Needs (diapers, formula, etc.)
- Assistance in Securing Housing and more.
NOTE: Summer Support is available throughout the summer. They offer information, crisis intervention, problem-solving and general support.
The Shirley Schneider Support Center, located within Balfour Collegiate, is an alternative high school setting for pregnant and/parenting women between the ages of 14 and 21. Provides a safe a welcoming environment where young women are provided with the academic and social supports necessary to obtain their high school education.
Eligibility
Pregnant and parenting youth, ages 13 years - 21 years. Majority of clients are students of the Shirley Schneider Support Centre (at Balfour Collegiate), an in-school program for pregnant and parenting youth.
Application Process
Students must complete an application for admission to the program. Registration forms and additional information available by calling 306-757-6675 to speak to a young parent worker.
