Philosophy

  • Believe nurturing children is a foundation for children’s development – it promotes the foundation for trust, empathy, and many other emotions.
  • Believe education shouldn’t be forced – children will be educated in everything they do as so many things are new experiences.
  • Believe the Early Childhood Educator must take the time to allow for children’s curiosity, interests, and questions.
  • Believe children need to learn compassion and empathy – they need to learn communication skills (talking, expressing themselves, and listening skills) – these are skills that will be with them for the rest of their life.
  • Staff talk to parents during drop off and pick up times. Parents can communicate with staff using an app. The app is used to send parents pictures, notes about their child’s day, sharing stores, any concerns, and general information, etc.

Programs and Activities

  • Daily programs give children opportunities for choices – do still follow a little bit of a schedule.
  • Adaptions are based on a child’s needs. For example, gloves may be worn for a child who does not like to have items touching his hands.
  • Schedule allows for large blocks of time where children choose what activities they participate in – different activities are offered each day and it is the child’s choice what they do.
  • Activities are done in two ways, child lead and staff lead. For example, if children present an interest in insects, staff will look for ideas to work with the child’s interest – staff will also look for activities that can peak a child’s interest like planting gardens.
  • Outdoor time is preferred but is weather permitting – activities can be taken outside whenever possible – if its too cold, then indoor large muscle play is available for the children.
  • Activities will be placed out for an invitation for the child to discover and then staff will guide as necessary – other times staff will lead the activity and will guide the child along.

Nutrition

  • Nutrition is responsible for brain and muscle development – it sets the child’s growth for the rest of their life – if they are undernourished, this will effect brain development for the rest of their lives.
  • Daycare provides two snacks and a lunch for the children.
  • Are aware of all known allergies and will adjust recipes as needed or will try provide an alternative food.
  • Parents are also asked to bring in foods their child can eat. For example, if the child has a milk allergy, the parent will bring in dairy free choices for milk, cheese, and yogurt.
