Service Description
Provides newcomer students and their families with services aimed at a smooth transition to the Canadian school system and their settlement in their community. Services include:
- Supports to newcomer families in transitioning into the Canadian school setting
- Supports family involvement in the student’s school life
- Improves newcomer access to community services
- Arranges interpreters and translators in newcomers’ first languages
- Promotes community awareness and involvement in the integration process through educating target groups (school staff, students, and parents)
- Strengthens immigrant’s ability to cope with the challenges of integration
- Identifies possible challenges in communication between school and parents and plan, implement and reinforce processes meet these challenges.
Works in partnership with the Good Spirit School Division and Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division.
Eligibility
Permanent residents and refugees living within 150 km radius of Yorkton.
