Service Description
Helps individuals pay for expenses as they train as an apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade.
- The AIG is a taxable grant worth $1,000 awarded to registered apprentices.
- You must complete your first year/level (or equivalent) to apply for the AIG.
- You can apply for this grant twice during your training (for a maximum of $2,000).
- You can apply for your second AIG after completing your second year/level (or equivalent) of training.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the AIG, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a protected person
- Not be a high school student
- Demonstrate registration and completion with acceptable provincial/territorial AIG supporting documents
- Be registered with your provincial or territorial apprenticeship authority as an apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade
Eligibility while attending school: you can apply for the AIG if you meet the eligibility requirements and you are a:
- Registered apprentice enrolled in adult learning classes;
- Registered apprentice taking professional development courses; or
- Quebec apprentice completing your vocational training.
