Service Description
Provides a one-time payment ($2500) to, or on behalf of, the estate of a deceased contributor of the Canada Pension Plan.
Eligibility
To qualify for the death benefit, the deceased must have made contributions to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) for at least:
- one-third of the calendar years in their contributory period for the base CPP, but no less than three calendar years, or
- Ten calendar years
If there is no estate, the person responsible for the funeral expenses, the surviving spouse or common-law partner or the next of kin may be eligible, in that order.
