Service Description

Methadone, a daily dispensed medication, is provided to individuals with opioid addiction and dependency to prevent withdrawal and craving for opioids.

  • Used together with counselling for people unable to detoxify and recovery through conventional resources such as detox centres, treatment centres, 12-step meetings, etc.
  • Treatment is a comprehensive and individualized process.

Eligibility

Adults with opioid addiction and dependency, who have previously attempted to abstain from opioids (e.g. morphine, dilaudid) with or without assistance.

Note: Youth involvement is at the discretion of their physician.

Application Process

Clients may self-refer or be referred by a community physician, hospital or community support via walk-in, or phone. Involvement in the program is voluntary.

Clients are assessed for admission by an addiction counsellor, after which a referral may be made to the methadone prescribing physician.
