Service Description
SAFE SHELTER: 306-439-2777
Provides a safe place for women and children fleeing any type of violence (ie. physical abuse, emotional / psychological abuse, sexual abuse, abuse of children). Shelter staff act as advocates for women and children, accessing housing, legal aid, and other community services.
Shelter has six rooms (with private bathroom in each) and can hold up to 22 people. Also provides transportation to the shelter, mental health programs, life skills programming, domestic violence awareness, parenting classes, cultural activities and more.
NOTE: Serves the Athabasca Basin region (which includes Black Lake First Nation, Fond Du Lac Denesuline First Nation, Stony Rapids, Uranium City and Camsell Portage). They will also accept calls from all over Northern Saskatchewan.
Eligibility
Women (and their children) who have been affected by domestic violence. - Minors ages 16+ with no parental accompaniment welcome.
Application Process
Any women (and children) experiencing interpersonal violence in Northern Saskatchewan.
1. Clients can self-refer or can be referred by nursing, mental health, NNADAP, RCMP etc. with consent of the client.
2. Call 306-439-2777 and speak to intake staff. If there is a referral, the client must also speak to the shelter before being admitted.
3. An interview will be completed over the phone.
4. If the shelter is full, the client will be put on a wait list based on their situation (prioritized as low, high, or immediate).
NOTE: Single women and women with children are accepted. Men will not be admitted into the shelter, but assistance and referrals to other agencies who house men of domestic violence will be given.
