Process for Transportation

  • The transportation for Treaty Status clients living in Fond du Lac, Uranium City, Camsell Portage, and Black Lake will be covered by NIHB. The Safe Shelter must provide a letter of acceptance to the Medical Transportation Department for the client. Transportation will then arrange travel to Stony Rapids for the client.
  • For non-status clients, refer the client to either the Family Violence Worker or to R.C.M.P’s Victim Services. The client will need to be accepted by the Safe Shelter before transportation can be arranged through the Family Violence Worker or Victim Services.

Application Process

Clients can self-refer or can be referred by nursing, mental health, NNADAP, RCMP etc. with consent of the client
Referring person (including client) calls (306) 439- 2777 and speaks to intake staff. Interview is completed over phone.
If the shelter is full, the client is put on a wait list and based on their situation is prioritized as low, high, or immediate.
Note: Single women can come to the shelter, not only women with children. No men will be admitted into the shelter, but we will assist in making referrals for other agencies who house men of domestic violence.
