Service Description
Visit the Saskatchewan Health Authority website for a map highlighting where to find food assets (such as free and low-cost food) in Saskatchewan communities. There are currently food asset maps available for Melfort, Nipawin, North Battleford and Regina. On the website, promotional and instructional materials are also available to help individuals learn how to use the maps and share the tool with others.
Food assets are places where people can grow, prepare, share, buy, receive or learn about food, food practices, food culture and food systems.
Food Asset Maps are designed to:
- help find places in the community that offer free and low-cost food.
- help find food assets like grocery stores, cultural food stores, community gardens and cooking programs.
- make it easier for community partners and service providers to locate and share food resources with others.
- help identify strengths and gaps in terms of available food assets, where they are located, and to help community leaders use food assets strategically.
