Service Description
Supports newcomer health and well-being through culturally sensitive services, language assistance, and system navigation. Helps ensure access to timely care, improve health literacy, and reduce barriers for newcomers with complex health needs. Programs and services include:
- Cultural Health Navigators (CHNs): facilitates effective communication between newcomers and medical professionals. CHNs attend appointments to assist with language interpretation, cultural navigation, and health literacy, while also supporting GGP staff in serving clients with complex needs.
- Providing Access to Healthcare (PATH): provides one-on-one support to refugees during their first six months in Canada. Helps navigate the healthcare system and addresses barriers such as interpretation, transportation, and unfamiliarity with services.
- Refugee Engagement and Community Health (REACH) Clinic: provides coordinated health support during a refugee client’s first year in Canada. Offered in partnership with the Saskatoon Community Clinic.
Eligibility
- Cultural Health Navigators (CHNs): newcomers to Canada, including privately sponsored refugees.
- Providing Access to Healthcare (PATH): Government assisted refugees (GARS).
- Refugee Engagement and Community Health (REACH) Clinic: newly arrived refugees, including privately sponsored refugees.
