Philosophy
- Place priority on making everyone (parents, children, and other agencies) feel welcome and comfortable.
- Provide a safe and caring atmosphere for children away from home.
- Respect each child and their emotions.
- Help develop a child who is a proud and valuable member of the community.
- Assist children in developing self-discipline and to encourage independence and self-confidence.
- Provide each child with the opportunity for positive physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development.
- Consider the diverse backgrounds of the families we serve and respect cultural differences, religious beliefs, and socio-economic status.
- We believe that all children, regardless of their physical, emotional or social abilities, have the right and should be offered the opportunity to take part in our program.
Programs and Activities
- A Play and Exploration early learning centre – all programming done within the centre is child lead.
- Educators have learned to take the children’s interests and expand on them through play and crafting – allows children to focus on and expand their interests.
- Run an inclusive program so all children can be included in the daily activities – educators work on adapting their programming to fit the needs of each child so that everyone can learn and grow.
- Days are structured based on the children – educators use their discretion when planning, so that if children are really enjoying one activity, they can focus on that.
- Children have a very loose schedule – there is some structure, but always room to change plans if they want to.
- Have a policy that each day the children spend a minimum of 15 minutes per day outside. (Weather Permitting)
- Educators try to incorporate the indoor play and the outdoor play so that they are one.
Nutrition
- Follows the food guide set out by Canada in order to ensure that each age group is getting the appropriate nutrition.
- Serve three meals per day; morning snack at 9:00 am, lunch at 12:00 pm, and afternoon snack at 2:30pm. At the centres that are open until 6:30 pm we also provide a light snack at 5:30pm.
- Children are provided with fruits or vegetables for each meal.
- Generally, are able to adapt meal plans to the needs of the child, depending on the severity of dietary restrictions – children with very severe allergies may be asked to bring in their own meals and fees would then be pro-rated.
