Service Description
Provides information, resources, and training to address substance use and addiction with a wholistic approach to healing and wellness that values culture, respect, community, and compassion. Includes:
- Thunderbird Resource Library
- Honouring Our Strengths Framework
- National framework that addresses substance use issues among First Nations people in Canada
- Native Wellness Assessment
- Tool to measure how cultural interventions affect a person’s wellness from a whole person and strengths-based view
- Indigenous Wellness Framework
- Foundational framework, developed by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, who shared their understanding of what wellness is from an Indigenous point of view
- First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework
- Foundational framework that deals with mental wellness among First Nations people in Canada and outlines a wellness approach that is grounded in culture
- Addictions Management Information System
- Database to collect reliable evidence of stories, experiences, and strengths of the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program and the National Youth Substance Abuse Program treatment centres across Canada
- Responding to Crisis in First Nations Communities
- Materials to help community members move from crisis to wellness
- Land-based Programs
- Materials to help create land-based healing programs
- Life Promotion Toolkit by Indigenous Youth
- Delivers information aimed at promoting life rather than focusing on preventing death
- Wage Parity in Indigenous Addiction Services
- Information and research on wage parity and the impact on addiction services
- Thunderbird Wellness Application
- Promotes a strengths-based, trauma informed, approach to supporting Indigenous Wellness
- Provides tangible ways to support First Nations, from opiod and methamphetamine use, to treatment, prevention, addressing stigma, and supporting harm reduction strategies
- Thunderbird Training
- Training courses are developed from a culture as foundation, strength-based trauma informed approach
- Indigenous Knowledge and culture guide all aspects of training
