Service Description

Provides English language assessments to Temporary Residents, Permanent Residents, and Canadian Citizens:

  • Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT) – offers English language assessments and referrals to provincially funded free Stage or English for Employment (E4E) language programs offered across Saskatchewan. Registration is open to Temporary Residents and Canadian citizens.
  • Language Assessment and Referral Centre (LARC) – assess English skills using the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Test and provides referrals to federally funded free Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program. Registration is open to Permanent Residents and Newcomers approved as eligible to receive IRCC funded programs.

Tests are offered in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, and Lloydminster.

Eligibility

LARC - CLB Language Assessments: ▪ Permanent Residents / Ukrainians who arrived via the CUAET program are eligible until March 31, 2025 ▪ 18 years of age or older ▪ Ready to begin attending classes at the time of assessment. CLBPT Language Assessments: ▪ Temporary Residents of Canada, Canadian citizens who arrived in Canada less than eight years ago, and Refugee Claimant ▪ 18 years of age or older ▪ Ready to begin attending classes at the time of assessment. Lloydminster - contact the Catholic Social Services (6612 35 Street / 780-875-9084 extension 3304 / jonah.alejandro@cssalberta.ca). The Catholic Social Services, in Lloydminster, offers English assessments two to three times a year. Contact for more information.

Documents Required

LARC - CLB Language Assessments:
- Proof of Permanent Residence

CLBPT Language Assessments:
- Immigration documents to confirm the status in Canada (Open Work Permit or Closed Work Permit or Student visa with permission to work in Canada or Canadian citizenship certificate or passport)
- 6-digit ICT number issued by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training (ICT). The IWS is available to help the client to contact the ICT and obtain the number.
