Service Description

In Saskatchewan, Kindergarten to Grade 12 education is a shared responsibility between the Ministry of Education, under the authority of the Minister of Education, and locally elected boards of education.

The Ministry of Education has the responsibility to:

  • Establish the goals and objectives of the educational system,
  • Prepare and distribute recommendations and advice on the management of schools and school divisions
  • Establish regulations authorizing provincial courses of instruction
  • Provide courses of study or curriculum guides pertaining to these courses
  • Provide lists of prescribed or recommended curriculum resource materials
  • Make regulations for the classification and certification of teachers.

Elected local school boards have responsibility to manage and administer the Kindergarten to Grade 12 school system in their school division, within the regulations and guidelines set out by the Ministry of Education.
