Philosophy

  • Provide children with nurturing relationships and a stimulating environment – believe gaining the child’s trust along with bonding is very important.
  • The children learn through play and they have a play-based child led philosophy.
  • Provide quality care as well as educated Early Learning Child Care providers.
  • As children learn through play, they learn to negotiate, problem solve, take turns, independence, and social skills – social skills will take a child through to adulthood.
  • Work in partnership with families, recognizing the importance of the family and valuing their commitment to their children – advocates for the holistic caring of families.
  • Seesaw program includes family communication of daily updates and pictures of their child’s day.

Programs and Activities

  • Has a play-based program – children learn through play – Early Childhood Educators observe the children’s interests and additional materials are added to extend the child’s play – the play is child lead.
  • Everything the children do is about choices – independence is learned through serving their own snacks, clearing their plates and cups, and encouraging self-help skills like dressing and toileting along with other daily activities.
  • Adaptations can be made to meet the needs of children – along with the Government grant program and the child’s assessment – there is the opportunity for the child to have one on one assistance helping the child with their daily needs.
  • Open to meeting the children’s needs by educating themselves for specific needs of the child and preparing activities according to their interest and best learning.
  • Child led play and children choose their own activities – in each play area there is a minimum number of children to avoid overcrowding and disrupted play.
  • Outdoor weather activities take place in -20 or less in the winter, or +20 or less in the summer.
  • Children play and explore the outdoor yard for over half their day.
  • Provides a large, accessible, and enclosed area for outdoor fun and activities.
  • Located close to neighbouring parks, a splash park, and other school yards which provides a variety in the children’s outdoor play.
  • During rest time, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, the non-sleepers in the preschool room enjoy uninterrupted child led play in the room – additional material is added according to the children’s interest.
  • Sign language is learned through songs and play.
  • Has invited multicultural individuals to come share their heritage with the children through games, books, cooking, music, and crafts – believe it is important to educate the children about their community and the world around them.

Nutrition

  • Believe it is important to eat nutritious food to meet the child’s growth and developmental needs and develop healthy eating habits for life.
  • Provides two healthy snacks and one hot lunch according to the daily requirements of Canada’s Food Guide.
  • Children are encouraged to eat high fiber, lower fat foods, with a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables included.
