Philosophy

  • Believe children benefit from opportunities for healthy development, learning what the children have in common, and accepting the differences among them – centre treats all children as they are equal.
  • To provide opportunities for free play, quiet time, and solitude, while also learning about the world around them through arts and crafts, story time, social play, and creative expressive activities – all these interactions develop problem solving skills, independence, and social skills.
  • Centre promotes cooperation and communication between parents and staff to provide the best care for their child – this includes active participation in the daily program for parents.

Programs and Activities

  • Daily routine that is followed includes free play, outside play, crafts, circle time, and story time which is planned around weekly themes.
  • Centre focuses the learning on the children and when the children show interest to a specific area, the centre adapts.
  • Centre involves the children and families in programming – to bring stuff from home regarding specific topics, pictures of their families, and different cultural beliefs.
  • Ages and Stages Questionnaires are done on all children so staff can see if they need to change or adapt more learning activities in a specific area to help the children develop.
  • Staff try and adapt programs as best as they are able so that all children have an equal opportunity at learning.

Nutrition

  • Believe nutrition is important as families are busy and sometimes don’t have time to make healthy meals or cannot afford it.
  • Believe healthy nutritional meals are key in helping a child to develop as best as they can.
  • Centre follows the Canada Food guide and provide pork, beef, chicken and fish at least once a week.
  • Meals consist of foods from all four food groups.
  • Milk is offered with breakfast, dinner, and supper.
  • When a child has a specific diet or cultural restrictions, centre tries to provide substitutions as best as they are able, or they ask the parents to send food items when children cannot eat specific foods.
