Service Description

Provides settlement supports, including needs assessment, personalized action planning, referral protocols and group learning/information sessions to assist clients. Support available:

  • Developing a settlement action plan
  • Information on getting a Driver’s License or Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Assistance applying for a Health Card
  • Assistance applying for Child Tax Benefits
  • Information on housing and education
  • Shopping information (food, clothing, and more)
  • Health and recreation information
  • Referrals to other community programs and resources

Settlement services for Temporary Residents*:

  • Provincial Settlement Servicesprovide personalized settlement support tailored to the client’s specific needs. The program is offered in Saskatoon and Regina and towns within a 150 km radius of these cities.

* Temporary Residents of Canada, i.e. Open/Closed work permit holder, Student visa holder with permission to work in Canada, Refugee Claimant with work permit (Proof of Temporary Residence is required).

The CLBPT is also available for Canadian citizens who arrived in Canada less than eight years ago. Provincial Settlement Services are also available for Canadian citizens who arrived in Canada less than five years ago.

Settlement services for Permanent Residents**:

“Welcome to Saskatchewan” Newcomer Orientation Program (W2SK) -Permanent Residents and other newcomers approved as eligible to receive IRCC funded programs Needs & Assets Assessments and Referral Services (NAARS) - Permanent Residents and other newcomers approved as eligible to receive IRCC funded programs Provincial Settlement Services - Temporary Residents of Canada and Canadian citizens who arrived in Canada less than five years ago * Temporary Residents of Canada, i.e. Open/Closed work permit holder, Student visa holder with permission to work in Canada, Refugee Claimant with work permit (Proof of Temporary Residence is required)

Application Process

Registration form is available at the IWS main office. Appointments will be arranged with the Settlement Advisor upon receipt of registration form.

Documents Required

For ​​Settlement Services for Temporary Residents and Canadian Citizens:
- Immigration documents to confirm the status in Canada (Open Work Permit or Closed Work Permit or Student visa with permission to work in Canada or Canadian citizenship certificate or passport)
- 6-digit ICT number issued by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training (ICT). The IWS is available to help the client to contact the ICT and obtain the number.

For Settlement services for Permanent Residents:
- Immigration documents to confirm the status in Canada (one of the following: Confirmation of PR (CoPR), otherwise called “Landing paper”, PR Card, Notice of Decision on refugee claim
- For CUAET visa holders - Work Permit document
