Child Care

A licensed child care home that provides care and supervision for up to 12 children between the ages of six months and six years. Operated in the provider’s private residence. Child care provider is fluent in English and Arabic languages. Child Care Subsidy accepted.

No requirement for fundraising, but when volunteering, responsibilities are:

• Have a valid Police clearance
• Never leave the children assigned to them unattended
• Model positive and appropriate behaviour at all times
• Listen to the children with thei full attention; if in doubt, ask the staff. Never make a final decision without consulting the staff.
• Foul language, smoking, chewing gum and using a cell phone is strictly prohibited.

Philosophy

• Believe children do best in home-like settings where they are able to learn and grow in a safe, secure, friendly, thoughtful and considerate environment. Helps to enhance social, emotional and physical development. Need to be treated with the utmost respect and care; reflects how they treat others.
• Daily plan is guided by each child’s desire to explore their unique interests and learning opportunities. Opportunities are provided for children to participate in various activities to allow them the freedom of choice.
• Meet each child’s individual needs and offer them encouragement in their milestones.
• Provide a stable and caring environment that makes parents and children feel at home.
• Key is communication and working together ensures each child’s needs are met.

Programs and Activities

• Programs and activities are provided that encourage children to use their imagination and creativity.
• Home is across the street from a park, backyard is abundant and full of outdoor toys. Sunscreen is applied beforehand and children are always hydrated.
• Fun-themed parties are planned for most holidays and birthdays. Parents/guardians are encouraged to join.
• The daily schedule is flexible and includes: child’s choice (quiet free time, lie down, nap, colouring, reading), breakfast, clean-up, group activities (art, games, playtime), outdoor activities (park, backyard – dependent on weather), clean-up, lunch, clean up, storytime, nap/quiet time, snack time, clean up, free playtime, watching Treehouse channel on television (maximum 30 minutes) while preparing for departure, pick-up, departure.

Nutrition

• Meal and snack time are relaxing and social time
• Provide a home-cooked meal in the morning and for lunch
• Menu rotates on a three-week basis and is planned according to the Canada Food Guide, and are reviewed every six months to meet the child’s changing needs
• Children are encouraged to eat, but are not furced
• Children with minor food allergies are provided with an alternative meal according to the Canada Food Guide.
