Service Description
Empowers pregnant and parenting youth, whether they are balancing completing their high-school education or adjusting to being a young parent.
Works in partnership with Shirley Schneider Support Centre (located at Balfour Collegiate), an in-school program for pregnant and parenting youth. Young Parent Workers are present daily to walk beside young families, responding to the needs of the moment. Program provides:
- Crisis intervention
- Assistance in obtaining childcare
- Infant development education
- Group support
- Legal referrals
- Education planning
- Career planning
- Assistance in securing housing
- Transportation
- Problem solving
- Decision making
- Financial information
- Access and custody referrals
- Relationship counselling
- Referrals to other supportive services
Eligibility
Pregnant and parenting youth, ages 13 years - 21 years. Majority of clients are students of the Shirley Schneider Support Centre (at Balfour Collegiate), an in-school program for pregnant and parenting youth.
Application Process
Students must complete an application for admission to the program. Registration forms and additional information available by calling 306-757-6675 to speak to a young parent worker.
