Service Description
Empowers pregnant and parenting youth, whether they are balancing completing their high-school education or adjusting to being a young parent. Program provides:
- Crisis Intervention
- Financial Benefit Applications
- Filing of Taxes
- Access to Counselling
- Legal and Custody Matters
- Communication with School Staff
- Letters of Reference or Support
- Problem Solving and Decision Making
- Financial Planning and Budgeting
- Assistance with Jordan’s Principle
- Accompaniment to Appointments
- Help with Essential Needs (diapers, formula, etc.)
- Planning for Transportation
- Access to Donations (clothing, strollers, toys, etc.)
- Assistance in Securing Housing
- Help Navigating Child Protection System.
Works in partnership with Shirley Schneider Support Centre (located at Balfour Collegiate), an in-school program for pregnant and parenting youth. Young Parent Workers are present daily to walk beside young families, responding to the needs of the moment.
Eligibility
Pregnant and parenting youth, ages 13 years - 21 years. Majority of clients are students of the Shirley Schneider Support Centre (at Balfour Collegiate), an in-school program for pregnant and parenting youth.
Application Process
Students must complete an application for admission to the program. Registration forms and additional information available by calling 306-757-6675 to speak to a young parent worker.
