Service Description

A licensed child care facility that provides care and supervision for up to 33 children between the ages of six weeks and six years. Priority is given to child(ren) of students of Oskayak High School, then teen parents attending other schools, then children of teachers of Oskayak High School, and then the community. Child Care Subsidy accepted.

Philosophy

  • Designed to meet the developmental needs of young children.
  • Provides experiences that enrich and enhance each child’s cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical, and creative development.
  • Provides an atmosphere where Indigenous cultural values and child rearing practices are emphasized.
  • Respect parents as the primary and most important provider of care and nurturing.
  • Believe parents and caregivers are partners in children’s care and education.

Programs and Activities 

  • Based on Play and Exploration.
  • Provide activities to help develop social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical skills, like playing with toys, art, pretending, enjoying stories and books, discovering sand and water play, music and exploring the outdoors.
  • Preschool program attempts to cover movement and coordination, autonomy and social skills, language and music.
  • Follow a schedule but also follow children’s interests.
  • Parents, staff, and children participate in school feast and other events.

Nutrition

  • Believe nutrition is extremely important. 
  • Follow the menu form and guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education.
  • Provide breakfast, lunch, and snack.
  • Try to accommodate special diets. 

Eligibility

Children between the ages of 6 weeks - 6 years.
Priority is given to child(ren) of students of Oskayak High School, then child(ren) of teen parents attending other schools, then child(ren) of teachers of Oskayak High School, and then the community.

Fees

There is no fee for teen parents enrolled in high school.

Community Spaces: Infant (6 weeks - 18 months) $900, Toddler (19 months - 30 months) $850, Preschool (30 months - Kindergarten) $750.

Child Care Subsidy accepted.
