Philosophy

  • Believe children deserve the benefits of quality childcare.
  • Believe a positive, pleasant, nurturing, and happy environment leads to children learning and growing to their potential.
  • Child-directed atmosphere that allows children to have choices in their activities.
  • Believe that children need some family grouping time and age grouping times, which incorporate a wide variety of activities and interests that provide children opportunities to develop their social, emotional, cognitive, and gross motor skills.
  • Believe that children need to learn non-violent, non-sexist, non-racial, and non-gender specific examples, so they may develop positive solutions to their problems, conflicts, and issues.
  • Children are taught to be responsible for their own actions and that there are consequences and reactions on such actions.
  • Welcome parent involvement as part of personal growth for their child.
  • Parents are welcome at the centre to come observe, share ideas, and see how their child is doing.
  • Encourage involvement in areas of fundraising, repair and maintenance, co-op time, the Board of Directors, as well as volunteers for field trips.

Programs and Activities

  • Has a more structured day which is play-based.
  • Children are always allowed choices and developmental appropriateness is always taken into consideration.
  • School-age children are escorted by childcare supervisors to and from school.
  • Children are asked which centre they would like to play in and are given time to switch if needed.
  • Provided with activities that foster independence.
  • Centres toys, sensory tables, and activities are dependent on children’s needs and interests.
  • Children go outside twice a day weather permitting – stay outside from forty-five minutes to an hour and thirty minutes every day.
  • Tries to include stories, games, and activities of different countries because children are very diverse.

Nutrition

  • Very important in the centre as they want children to develop healthy eating and physical activity habits, at an early age, which is crucial in early childhood.
  • Nutrition is very important to children’s physical and mental development to grow and develop.
  • Educators eat with the children during meal time to set a good example, especially when teaching to take turns and share.
  • Five week menu, which is rotated every week.
  • Children are given two snacks and a lunch every day.
  • Meals are based on Canada’s Food Guide so that children are getting adequate variety and amounts of foods from the four food groups.
  • Morning and afternoon snacks consist of two food groups including vegetables or fruit.
  • Lunch is composed of three or more food groups.
  • Milk is offered twice a day – juice is offered twice a week and is unsweetened – water is also offered.
