Service Description

Saskatchewan residents who require immediate treatment with covered prescription drugs and are unable to cover their share of the cost may access a one-time emergency assistance.

  • An eligible beneficiary may obtain a limited supply of covered prescription drug(s) at a reduced cost.
  • The level of assistance provided is in accordance with the consumer’s ability to pay. 

Eligibility

Residents who require immediate treatment with covered prescription drugs and are unable to cover their share of the cost may access a one-time emergency zssistance.

Application Process

During regular office hours: the individual's pharmacy may call the Ministry of Health (Drug Plan branch) at 1-800-667-7571 to request coverage. The individual may obtain up to one-month supply of covered drug products included in the request.

Outside regular office hours: the pharmacy may provide up to a four-day supply of covered drug products in an emergency situation. The Ministry will honour the claim at the rate specified by the pharmacy.

Documents Required

The applicant must provide the following at the pharmacy:

- patient identification (health services card number)
- pharmacy identification (name, number)
- name and cost of the drug(s) required immediately
- reason for the request, including evidence that other sources of credit or assistance have been explored and are not available.
