Philosophy

  • A non-profit organization dedicated to families, quality child care, and early childhood education.
  • Center works to support families to be successful and children to achieve their individual optimal holistic development in a home like environment.
  • The purpose of the Center is:
    • To enable parents to continue with academic studies, or to be a member of the work force by providing quality child care.
    • To support infants and toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children with their holistic development within a safe and caring environment.
    • To apply a comprehensive range of effective child centered practices which are developmentally appropriate for each child.
    • To provide a program for children, this includes a balance of active and quiet, indoor and outdoor, directed and self-selected play activities that will assist in their optimal development.
    • To encourage and support active parent participation and to provide opportunities for parent education and support.
    • To respect and honor the values, rights, and diversity of all the participants of the center.

Programs and Activities

  • Infant Program:
    • Presents opportunities for infants to make choices.
    • Each child will create their own schedule for eating, diapering, and sleeping – schedules are flexible as their needs often vary from day to day.
    • Children are encouraged to participate in routines of eating, diapering, and sleeping – these times are used as opportunities for learning. (sensory experience, language development, social interaction, etc)
    • Infants learn in an environment that allows them the ability to move freely, explore, and manipulate objects in a safe, carefully designed environment, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Toddler Program:
    • Childcare workers provide a safe, nurturing environment, which promotes the development of the whole child.
    • Activities are planned based on the needs of the individual child – staff will allow enough flexibility to ensure each child’s individual needs are met.
    • Children are encouraged to participate in routine activities, such as eating and sleeping – this includes washing up for snacks and lunches and tidying up – this is used as an opportunity for language and social development.
    • Children learn through play, in an environment that is safe, self-directed, multi-purpose, and easy to explore.
    • Talking, reading, singing, and extending language will encourage language development.
    • Circle times are not structured – they are relaxed and informal learning opportunities.
  • Preschool Program:
    • The preschool age program incorporates more structure and new concepts appropriate for the children’s abilities.
    • Program will be based on a mix of teacher and child led experiences that are determined based on the interests and abilities of the children.
    • Play based activities promote holistic development and foster relationships among children.
    • Preschool age children are explorers and every effort will be made to provide a program that provides outlets for that exploration.
    • Children are involved in the planning of activities and given opportunities to build upon concepts and ideas.
  • Kindergarten and School-Age Program:
    • School-age program is based on a mix of teacher and child led experiences that are determined based on the interests and abilities of the children.
    • Play based activities promote holistic development and foster relationships among children.
    • Focus of this program is fun and is respectful of the fact that children attending school need the center to be a place of relaxation.

Nutrition

  • Center provides two nutritious snacks and one nutritious meal every day.
  • Menu works on a six week rotation (during the fall and winter) and a four week rotation (during the spring and summer) – some adaptations may be made on occasion.
  • Parents are not to send food (including candy) at any time for the children, unless in special circumstance and with permission – an example of a special circumstance would be if the child has allergies or food restrictions – parents are required to provide an alternative that will ensure their child is still receiving the recommended amount of food groups per meal as stated in the Canada Food Guide.
  • Center understands the importance of nutrition as it ties into brain development so the nutrition program is important to them.
  • Center makes most of their food items from scratch – use as little sugar as possible when baking and provide multi grain or whole wheat grain products.
  • In creating a menu they follow the guidelines set out by Health Canada and the Canada Food Guide.
