Philosophy
- Most important aspect of the daycare is to provide a nurturing responsive learning environment for play, building on executive function, which is essential to building a strong foundation for brain development.
- Play is a critical part of brain development with the most influential time happening between zero to six years of age – believe that children need a positive learning environment that encourages children to feel safe and secure enabling them to grow, explore, and develop the necessary skills for a love of learning.
- The nurturing learning environment will become like a second home, building into a trusting partnership with families to care and educate the most precious resource.
- Encourage open communication and use HiMama to communicate with the parents about their child’s day.
- Provide opportunities for the families to come together so that everyone can get to know each other, rather than just in passing.
Programs and Activities
- Provide opportunities for children to participate in a variety of activities with a loose structure that allows the freedom of choice, that builds imagination and creativity.
- Program is play based.
- Grounds are a wonderful place for exploring and simply enjoying the natural world.
- Are fortunate to have a wonderful park at their disposal, that they visit daily, providing the children with the opportunity to run and participate in risky play.
- Are located in the basement of an Independent and Assisted Living Complex for Seniors, so eventually hope that once the risk of COVID-19 has passed they will be able to have many opportunities to engage with the Seniors that reside in othe facility.
Nutrition
- Have lunch and two snacks supplied by the kitchen in the Senior facility.
- Have a couple of red seal chefs that cook wonderful delicious and nutritious meals and home made soups and snacks for the daycare.
- Any dietary restrictions are made.
- Follow the Canadian Food Guide and provide the necessary daily requirements at each sitting.
- Follow Ellen Slatter’s Division of Responsibility, encouraging children to try new foods and eat as much as they like.
- During non COVID-19 times, they would like to serve meals family style to the children, to increase their independence, as well as enhance other developmental domains.
