Service Description

Helps reduce costs of dental costs for Canadian residents who have a family net income of less than $90,000 per year, who do not have dental insurance.

The program will be implemented in a phased-in approach:

  • Available to apply by phone:
    • Seniors ages 87+ in December 2023
    • Seniors ages 77-86 in January 2024
    • Seniors ages 72-76 in February 2024
    • Seniors ages 70-71 in March 2024.
  • Available to apply online:
    • Seniors ages 65-69 in May 2024
    • Adults ages 18-64 with a valid Disability Tax Credit Certificate in June 2024
    • Children under 18 years in June 2024
    • All remaining eligible Canadian residents in 2025.

Eligibility

To qualify, you must: be a Canadian resident for tax purposes; have an adjusted family net income under $90,000; not have access to employer/pension-sponsored or private dental insurance; and have filed your tax return in the previous year. ▪ If you have dental coverage through a provincial, territorial, or federal government social program, you can still qualify for the CDCP. Visit the website for details. ▪ If you have a spouse or common-law partner, you both need to meet the eligibility criteria to be able to qualify for the CDCP. Visit the website for details. The program will be implemented in a phased-in approach - see details above. Potential eligible seniors who are 70 years of age or older have been invited to apply for the CDCP between December 2023 and March 2024 by letter.

Application Process

If you received a CDCP letter:
1. Follow the instructions in the letter to apply by phone.
2. Wait for Service Canada to let you know if you qualify for the CDCP.
3. If you qualify, wait to receive your welcome package from Sun Life before scheduling any dental appointments.

If you're eligible to apply but have not received a letter and your address is out of date:
Contact the Canada Revenue Agency to update your file.

Documents Required

Eligible seniors who are 70 years of age or older: application code received by letter.

All other eligible applicants: starting in May, information on how to apply to the CDCP will be available on the website.
