Service Description

Canada Learning Bond (CLB) – is money that the Government of Canada will add to a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). This money helps to pay the costs of a child’s full- or part-time studies after high school. The Government of Canada will contribute up to $2,000 for an eligible child and no personal contributions to an RESP are required to receive the CLB. Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) – is money that the Government of Canada will add to a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). This money helps to pay the costs of a child’s full- or part-time studies after high school. The Government of Canada will contribute up to $7,200 for an eligible child, however, a parent or guardian must contribute to an RESP in order to receive the funds. Eligibility

To be eligible for the CLB, a child must:
- Be from a low-income family
- Be born on or after January 1, 2004
- Be a resident of Canada
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Be named in an RESP

To be eligible for the CESG, a child must:
- Be a resident of Canada
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Be named as a beneficiary in a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)

The CESG is available until the end of the calendar year that a child turns 17. However, there are eligibility restrictions for children who are 16 or 17 years old. A contribution must be made to the RESP for a child to get the CESG.
