Service Description

Canada Learning Bond – Provides $500 offered by the Government of Canada to help start saving now for a child’s education after high school.

Canada Education Savings Grant – Provides money that the Government of Canada will add to a child’s savings in a Registered Education Savings Plan, including:

  • Basic Canada Education Savings Grant, giving the person 20% on every dollar of the first $2,500 saved in the child`s RESP each year
  • Additional Canada Education Savings Grant, depending on the person’s net family income, they can receive an extra 10% or 20% on every dollar of the first $500 the person saves in their child`s RESP each year.

Eligibility

Children who are Canadian residents and are named in a RESP may receive Grant amounts until the end of the calendar year they turn 17. Special rules apply if the child is between 15 - 17 years of age.

Application Process

Information on RESPs and CESG application procedures is available from financial institutions, such as banks or credit unions or through a certified financial planner or a group plan dealer and Service Canada site near you.
