Service Description
A benefit available to low-income individuals aged 60 – 64 who are the spouse or common-law partner of a Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) recipient.
Eligibility
You qualify for the allowance if you meet all of the following conditions:
- You are aged 60 - 64 (includes the month of your 65th birthday);
- Your spouse or common-law partner receives an Old Age Security pension (OAS) and is eligible for the GIS;
- You are a Canadian citizen or a legal resident;
- You reside in Canada and have resided in Canada for at least 10 years since the age of 18; and
- You and your spouse or common-law partner’s annual combined income is less than the maximum allowable annual threshold.

Application Process
Apply for the allowance 6 - 11 months before your 60th birthday.
Apply Online:
If you are applying online, you will need a My Service Canada Account (MSCA). If you do not have an MSCA account, you can register for one. You will receive a personal access code to complete your registration. Visit the website to apply or register through My Service Canada Account.
Apply Using a Paper Application:
1. Print and complete the paper form Allowance or the Allowance for the Survivor (ISP3008).
2. Print and complete the paper form Statement of Income for the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance or the Allowance for the Survivor form (ISP3026).
3. Include certified true copies of the required documents.
4. Mail the application to Service Canada or bring it in person to a Service Canada Office.
