Advocacy

Advocates for victims of sexual violence:

• Accompanies victims/survivors to the hospital, police station and court, as requested by the client
• Works with mainstream media and ensures that survivor voices are heard by decision-makers in the community and province
• “Violence Against Women Advocate Case Review Project” – Staff work with the Regina Police Service. Four times a year they review all sexual assault files that ended with no charges and provide observations and recommendations for enhancing investigations and victim interviews.
• Works with Regina’s sexual assault forensic nurses and ensures that every patient seeking medical attention for sexual violence is offered the choice to have an advocate present during the procedure. They also connect them to information and resources.
