Service Description

Children are checked for normal development and overall health at all immunization appointments, and at special clinics for all new babies until their eight week immunization. Mothers are checked for overall wellness and are offered support with breastfeeding by specially certified nurses. Nurses offer support after every new birth and visit new moms and babes in the home after the birth, checking the baby and the mom, and ensuring everyone is managing in their new environment.

Maternity Visiting Program (MVP) provides supportive nursing services to mothers who go home sooner after the birth of their baby. A Public Health Nurse (PHN) will visit within 24 – 48 hours after discharge from the hospital. The PHN checks mother and baby, and provides information and counselling on: breastfeeding, nutrition, rest, exercise, baby care.

Well Baby Service supports mothers, infants, and families for the first year of life. Parents can weigh their baby, develop a support network, interact with other new moms and a nurse is on site to answer any questions. Baby time is held every Thursday from 2 – 4 pm at the Public Health office in Moose Jaw.
