Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission
Organization Description
Oversees and administers the apprenticeship and trade certification system in Saskatchewan. Fulfills four primary functions:
- trains apprentices
- certifies tradespeople and apprentices
- regulates the apprenticeship system of training
- promotes apprenticeship as a way for employers to meet their labour market requirements.
Also a certification body responsible for issuing journeyperson certificates.
Apprentices are not trained on site at SATCC. Individual employers deliver the bulk of the training to their own apprentice employees in their workplaces under the guidance of skilled journeyperson mentors. Institutions like Saskatchewan Polytechnic and regional colleges are contracted to provide, theory-based technical training to complement the work-based learning.
