Service Description
Provides students and their families with the immediate essential services required to support their transition into the Canadian school setting. SWIS assist Newcomers with:
- Understanding school policies and procedures
- School registration and orientation
- Communicating with educators
- Parent-teacher interviews
- Connecting with school and community services and resources
- Volunteering opportunities
- Workshops and information sessions
- Cultural orientation and sensitivity trainings
- EAL/ESL Needs (English language tutorials/trainings)
- Consultation on school settlement issues
SWIS is in partnership between Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division, Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division and Southeast Newcomer Services.
Eligibility
Provides services to all categories of immigrants including government sponsored refugees, privately sponsored refugees, family sponsored immigrants, economic immigrants, and Canadian citizens who are children of immigrants.
