Child Care

A licensed child care facility that provides care and supervision for up to 90 children between the ages of six weeks and six years during the school year and six weeks and 12 years during the summer. Priority is given to First Nations University of Canada students and employees.

Parents/guardians are required to pay a $200 deposit per child to reserve a space and a $25 administration fee. The deposit is non-refundable when the reserved space is not used, but is refundable upon one month’s written notice of withdrawal and all child care fees and subsidies are paid in full. The administration fee is non-refundable. Parents/guardians are required to participate in two fundraising events per calendar year or will be charged $100 per event.

  • Support the pamināwasowin child care educators and staff in their professional development and training opportunities.
  • Develop a healthy relationship between the child, educator, and family.
  • Embrace the connections with Elders in the First Nations University of Canada community.
• Activities may include outings, rest time, and outdoor play when weather permits.

Nutrition

• Good nutrition is promoted as it plays an important role in the overall mental and physical well being of children.
• A nutritious morning snack and lunch will be provided daily as well as a simple afternoon snack.
• A balanced choice of foods will be served using the current recommendations of the Canada Food Guide with an effort given to restrict intake of excessive amounts of sugar, fat and salt.
• Water will be provided upon request, at regular intervals and after heat exposure or physical activity.
• Milk will be served at mealtime.
• Staff monitor the children’s meals and report problems to the parent(s).
• Centre does not force a child to eat or restrict meal portions.
• Director must be notified if your child has any allergies or special diets.
• A record of children’s food allergies/special diets is to be kept in the kitchen and each classroom.
• If a child is allergic or is unable to have a planned meal, if possible, depending on the degree of allergies, an equally nutritious substitute meal will be served.
• The child care is nut sensitive.
• On children’s birthdays, parents are permitted to bring a cake or muffins to share with all the children – no candies, treats, favors or gifts are permitted.
• Insists that parents refrain from bringing candies, chocolate bars, chips, cheesies, fruit roll-ups fruit wrinkles, and other treats – treats will be supplied by the child care only on special days like Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day and not on a regular basis.
