Philosophy

  • Believe positive interactions are essential to help children feel safe and comfortable.
  • Believe learning happens after positive relationships are built between children and educators.
  • Children are provided opportunities to build skills through intentional activities that focus on essential learning skills and aim to incorporate all areas of development into daily programming including social (communication), emotional (identifying feelings and learning regualtion), intellectual (cognitive), physical (both gross motor and fine motor), and spiritual development.
  • Children learn problem solving skills with the support of staff who guide them through processes and enable them the power and control to make appropriate choices.
  • Have an open door policy and value the diverse perspectives of parents as they believe parents are the most valuable resource in a child’s development.
  • Believe parents are the experts on their child’s skills.
  • All children are valued as capable and competent leaners.

Programs and Activities

  • All activities are play-based while incorporating essential learning skills development.
  • Aim to provide a balance between structured and unstructured activities.
  • A number of activities are prepared for the children to choose from as well as more structured group activities at different times of the day.
  • Try to provide activities that align with the interests of the children – activities change as the children loose interest.
  • Value the uniqueness of each child and do their best to incorporate their interests into planned activities.
  • Daily routine includes group time, learning centres/art activities, outdoor play, a story corner, quiet centres/small group activities, gross motor activities, and free play.
  • During the month of February each year their menu features “Foods of the World,” which opens up discussion about various cultures and new activities.

Nutrition

  • Believe good nutrition promotes growth and development, as well as gives children the ability to focus and thrive.
  • Provide two snacks and one meal each day that follow the Canada Food Guide and requirements of the Ministry of Education.
  • Try to provide alternatives for some food allergies or special diets, but this is not always possible – when they are unable to provide a suitable alternative, parents are able to bring food from home.
  • A nut free facility.
